Localization goes above and beyond translating. While translations focus primarily on the conversion of one text to another, localization involves the “translation” of text, images, colors, music, and more. In short, localization is the act of adapting any product or destination (website) to a specific region or culture.
This is a particularly complex process that many translation firms fail to perform correctly.
Businesses not only must get their message across accurately, but also must do it in a way that fits each specific culture and ethnic group.
Easternwest has the experience, reputation, and team of localization experts to provide localization services for all of your projects, be they print, video, audio, or online.
Website localization is the process of modifying an existing website to make it accessible, usable and culturally suitable to a target audience. More than 1/3 of all internet users are non-native English speakers, and according to research, website visitors will stay twice as long if the website is in their own language.
As companies look to expand into new markets, reach a global audience and increase international sales, the benefits of website localization are obvious.
Easternwest takes the guesswork and hassle out of the website translation experience. We pick up where your developers and marketing people leave off. We can work with you whether you have a content management system or not.
Simply provide us with the source files and we will return translated files ready for upload.
Transcreation exists to fulfill a need beyond literal or precise translation. It is most commonly used in straplines, advertising, brand-led campaigns, websites and marketing materials.
Transcreation takes translation further. It adapts a target text for a particular locale and a target audience. Instead of offering an equivalent of a phrase or sentence, the message behind the text is derived, and then is recreated in the target language. It often involves the introduction of new words, or the omission of certain sentences or phrases. At times it will include an explanatory phrase, or a change in emphasis to fit local expectations or markets. And in certain situations, such as a culturally specific strapline, it will involve a major change in the text.
The process involves industry experience, knowledge of the target audience, awareness of the local culture - and inspiration. In contrast to translation, it also involves a great deal of subjectivity, as it addresses emotions as well as the intellect. The criteria for evaluating a transcreation are quite different from those of a translation, and typically, the most successful transcreations involve substantial interaction between the client and the transcreator.
Technical writing seeks to deliver relevant, useful and accurate information to the end user, such as how to use a software application, operate a device, safely consume packaged food, etc. If you’ve ever read a user manual, you will probably know what technical writing is, though it comes in many forms.
The steps in technical writing include:
- Identification of needs, audience(s), and scope
- Planning
- Research & content development
- Testing / review and revision
- Delivery of content
- Evaluation and feedback
- Revision and finalization
In other words, if the activity requires expertise or skill to perform, then technical writing is a necessary component.
Technical writers must have the ability to explain complicated procedures in clear language. Technical writers are information designers and must also be good with problem solving and trouble-shooting.
Copywriting includes all the written communications used to sell, market and promote products and services to prospects and customers. As a category, it is more than ‘advertising writing’ because it also includes outputs such as brochures and websites.
Objectives of copywriting:
Making Sales – Copywriting is used to convince prospects to buy your product (or service). Use of correct words is important.
Attracting Customers – Copywriting can help businesses attract customers to their destination, where the actual sale can be made. In this case, rather than an outright sale, your copy helps to build the foundation for a sale.
Building Relationships –Through copywriting a business can establish rapport and build credibility for its products and services while also educating its prospects.
A copywriter helps a business shape its communication from scratch, working with it to define messages, pinpoint themes, as well as research and interview to ensure the message is clear, consistent and on-brand and able to sway the readers' decision in a favourable way.
A transcription service will convert speech into a written or electronic text document.
There are different variations of this service, all of which will result in a text document containing the dialogue from the source audio or video file. If you need any assistance in choosing the right solution for your needs, we can help you to decide by discussing your requirements.
Most common requests are:
• Basic Same Language Transcription. Consists of transcribing the source text only.
• Standard Translated Transcription. Consists of translating and transcribing in one step; only the target language will be transcribed.
• Source and Target Transcription. Consists of both of the above.
Marketing provides the first point of contact between businesses and customers. If it lacks quality, spirit or authenticity, then marketing fails.
Billions are spent every minute to influence consumers and boost sales. For this reason, marketing translations have to be carried out with extra care so that your budget remains protected. Considering that you can spend a fortune to create a corporate identify, it is vital to ensure that it is preserved when translated into other languages.
Marketing translators must be able to convey the original message of a slogan or advertisement in any other language.
Your marketing documents are thus very important, and need to be translated properly.
We offer flexible video subtitling services so that you can choose a solution that most closely matches your requirements and budget.
We handle every subtitling file format and every type of content. We promise to provide you with a cost-effective subtitling service that can't be beaten on a price or service level.
All of our video subtitle editors are permanent in-house employees, which means that we can offer a fast, efficient and expert service that our competitors simply cannot match.
Our team at Easternwest has extensive experience with DTP, or multilingual desktop publishing. Here our goal is to create online or print-ready localized materials that accurately reflect the original. At the same time, we enhance these materials so that they conform to the linguistic and typographic standards of each target country.
While typically one of the last phases of a translation project, the quality of desktop publishing can affect the entire tone, look and feel of any set of localized materials. The translation could be superb, but an error in layout can weaken the potential to influence the end-user. The stakes are even higher when it comes to more prominent materials such as those used for marketing or advertising. In certain situations, multilingual DTP can even have a direct impact on a product’s regulatory approval.
Post-Editing Machine Translation (PEMT) is a process used by companies to improve the quality and efficiency of translating comments or other text content. It involves using machine translation (MT) systems to generate initial translations of text and then having human translators or editors review and edit the machine-generated output to ensure it meets the desired quality standards. This approach is particularly relevant for companies dealing with a large volume of comments or user-generated content in multiple languages, such as those operating in the globalized digital landscape.
These MT systems can range from basic rule-based systems to more advanced neural machine translation (NMT) models.
It's easier to scale translation efforts with AI and post-editing, especially for businesses that deal with large volumes of content.
Post-editing allows you to maintain a balance between cost savings and translation quality.
Post-Editing Machine Translation is a valuable tool for companies to manage the translation of comments and user-generated content efficiently. It combines the speed of machine translation with the precision of human editing, ensuring that the translated content meets quality standards and reflects the company's brand and message accurately.
Translating a patent specification is a specialized and meticulous process aimed at converting the content of a patent document from one language to another while maintaining its technical accuracy, legal precision, and adherence to the specific requirements of patent laws and regulations in the target jurisdiction.
The patent claims are the heart of a patent document, defining the scope of protection for the invention. Translators must accurately convey these claims to preserve the inventor's rights in the new jurisdiction. A mistranslation in this section could have significant legal implications.
Patent specifications often contain proprietary information. Translators must adhere to strict confidentiality agreements to protect the inventor's intellectual property.
Translating a patent specification is a highly specialized task that requires a unique combination of technical expertise, legal knowledge, and linguistic skill. The goal is to accurately convey the invention's details while complying with the legal and linguistic requirements of the target jurisdiction, ultimately safeguarding the inventor's intellectual property rights and enabling effective international patent protection.
Every client has different objectives and every localization and translation project is unique. Although how we manage projects is important, understanding how the project outputs will be used and how what we deliver will be scrutinized is central to how we provide our services.
We believe in establishing objectives at the start of the project, measuring the outputs to ensure they meet these objectives before each delivery step and then learning from the experience once the project has been completed. Some of the tools that enable us to do this include the briefing documents provided by the customer, detailed work package documentation for our translation and and localization teams, adapted quality control techniques and in-house learning logs.
We believe quality should be front-loaded, and must start as far upstream as possible. Translation and localization are linear processes that typically involve a team of individuals that play different roles (translator > editor ... etc.), each with their own unique and separate tasks. In localization projects, many companies will leave the quality review until the very end of the project. We believe this approach wastes time and can add to the overall cost of the project. Our approach is to make sure quality is built-in at the start of the project, and then reviewed in every stage.
